The TV audition comes in all forms. A person is sometimes discovered doing extra work or (rarely) while out roller-skating on the boardwalk. One thing you can count on in a TV audition is that you can become a ridiculously famous well-known celebrity if you do well and you're brought on to the project. This is what a TV audition can do.
